Will deBacker


William deBacker obtained a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Toronto in 1978 and became a registered Member of the Ontario Association of Architects 1982. He is a member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

Since 1987 he has practised with Spencer R. Higgins, Architect Incorporated, providing consulting services in the conservation of historic buildings.

He obtained certification as a Registered Specifications Writer (RSW) from the Construction Specifications Canada in 1987.
Mr. deBacker is a member of Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) where he has served terms on the Board of Directors as Registrar and on the Toronto Chapter as chairman. He is also a member of the Association for Preservation Technology International (APTI). He is a member of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) where he served on the executive of the ICOMOS Canada Stone Committee, and a member of the Canadian Association of Professional Heritage Consultants (CAPHC). He is a past member of the CAPHC Symposium Committee.
Mr. deBacker has lectured both at a joint APT/ICOMOS Masonry Conservation training course on the topic of construction contracts for conservation projects, and at Ryerson University on Building Science principles related to conservation projects.
