Niagara North Limestone

Stone Testing

This Stone Testing Project (2017) was awarded to ArconTEST Incorporated to provide verification testing for the Niagara North limestone owned by Odawa Stone Incorporated of the Sheshegwaning First Nation.

A detailed report on two stone bed types was compiled. Test procedures were carried out in the ArconTEST in-house architectural conservation laboratory on each stone type including:

  • Acid Immersion

  • Porosity

  • Saturation Coefficient

  • Apparent Density

  • Absorption, Resistance to Salt Crystalization

  • Modulus of Rupture

  • Compressive Strength

  • Standard Petrographic Analysis

The stones were also verified for unidirectional freeze-thaw resistance to EN 459 - Method of Test for Masonry Units in our testing laboratory.

Rough blocks were provided by the quarry after being cut to smaller units by the quarry's fabricator. The smaller blocks were then verified at the cutting shop and then re-cut into testing specimens in our facility.
